Power Yoga
Balance, flexibility and mental focus
are skills that are extremely important in the unpredictable and unstable
environments we tend to find ourselves in, Such as those found in most life
situations. Fortunately these skills, like other skills, are trainable. If the mind is
anxious and the body is rigid, movements are will be slow and choppy and reaction time
delayed. When
faced with stressful daily life situations, the body may
become physically, emotionally and mentally
fatigued. This is when serious accidents, and illness can occur.
Power Yoga incorporates balance, flexibility, strength and mental focus with
dynamic movement in order to enhance communication between mind and muscle.
Movements become graceful yet powerful; the body becomes strong yet supple;
and the mind becomes calm and composed even in the midst of chaos.
At
Yoga Revolution and Fitness, we take an inside out approach to power
yoga training. This means we start by
developing a strong foundation and then progressively work through the entire
body. Nothing is overdeveloped or overlooked; every nook and cranny of the
body, visible or not, is strengthened and lengthened with balance in mind. The
asanas (postures) combined with the pranayama (breathing) will
release the unlimited potential that is already contained within you. Power
yoga is not
about building big muscles and contortionism; rather, power yoga will
ignite your spirit and transform not just your body, but also your life.

Core Yoga
An individual is said to be only as strong as his or her
weakest link. For most individuals, this weakness occurs at their
core, within the body's deep stabilizing muscles.
The core muscles are engaged to stabilize and protect the body during
movements where balance is challenged, such as running, jumping, hiking,
golfing, climbing, stopping, and preventing slips and falls. Often, when the
core muscles are weak, the posture is poor. As such, internal movement is
sacrificed and often accompanied by pain in the lower back or lower limbs.
During a
Core Yoga class,
Power Yoga asanas (postures) are combined with traditional Pilates
principles to create unrestricted flowing movement, which strengthens the deep
core muscles. A toned midsection is just one of the many
side benefits from taking this class; the true reward is the internal focus
that can be achieved.

Sport Yoga
Flexibility is defined as the range of motion at a given joint.
Through years of training, injuries, improper posture, weak core muscles and
the one-sided dominant nature of sport, the range of motion in a joint can be drastically reduced.
A joint's full range of
motion is required for quick, powerful movements. A fast running or skating
stride depends on the
length of the stride, not the number of strides per
minute. A powerful slap shot, pitch or golf swing depends on the range of
motion of the shoulders, back and hips; and only a supple flexible body will
recoil after an unexpected slip, fall or serious accident without feeling the
effects either right away or years later.
Traditional strength training can overlook the
realities
of our day-to-day life and athletic challenges. Overdeveloped tight muscles can
create strain on the ligaments and joints,
thus restricting normal movement. Often a tight hamstring can cause a low back
injury, a tight quad or knee injury.
During a Sport yoga class, unrestricted flowing movement, combined with a
conscious breath and bhandas (contractions of the deep stabilizing
muscles of the core) re-educate the body into moving the way it was intended,
free from the tension, restriction and injury that can occur from
traditional strength training and real world workday routines.
